.
There were well over 100 entries to the #loveyourdoor competition showing that the humble door with all its variety and diversity is an important part of our architectural heritage.
.
It was a difficult choice, which boiled down to 10 contenders.
.
Mike Critchlow's Bolsover Castle door was a strong contender - simply because of the sheer presence and beauty of the door.
.
Kim Phillips door at Laycock Abbey was also a strong contender. It has a lyrical beauty augmented by the raking light.
.
But, for me, Tim Firth's image - 'Hidden streets with secret doors' pips the post.

It has a combination of three things:
  1. The door is beautiful in itself
  2. The isolating nature of the lighting gives the door presence.
  3. The way the photographer has framed the image to include the shadows to augment the beauty of the door shows real photographic craft.

Congratulations to Tim Firth - a large Door Poster is on its way to you.
