There were well over 100 entries
to the #loveyourdoor competition showing that the humble door with all its variety and diversity is an important part of our architectural heritage.
Mike Critchlow's Bolsover Castle door
was a strong contender - simply because of the sheer presence and beauty of the door.
Kim Phillips door at Laycock Abbey
was also a strong contender. It has a lyrical beauty augmented by the raking light.

It has a combination of three things:
- The door is beautiful in itself
- The isolating nature of the lighting gives the door presence.
- The way the photographer has framed the image to include the shadows to augment the beauty of the door shows real photographic craft.
Congratulations to Tim Firth - a large Door Poster is on its way to you.
